John's journey began modestly, leaving his family farm at fourteen with a grade nine education. His early years at a furniture store in Windsor, N.S., instilled a strong work ethic. In 1952, after marrying Shirley and starting a family, John moved to Lower Sackville to begin anew at Blackburn Shopping Centre. His dedication and business acumen led him to establish his own hardware store. By 1970, John expanded this venture into a successful enterprise, joining the Home Hardware family. This move underscored his belief in community and the mutual benefit of good business practices.
